GOLF

Open to the public seven days a week, Mt. Anthony Country Club features an 18-hole regulation length course: 6,364 yards of golf from the blue tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 70.5 and it has a slope rating of 127.

A major golf course renovation is under way under the direction of Golf Course Architect, A. John Harvey, of the RBA Group to take full advantage of the spectacular Green Mountain location and challenge players at every level. The restoration process includes reshaping of bunkers and tee complexes. No more than two complexes are being worked on at the same time, so the inconvenience to golfers is minimal. A systematic agronomic program has been initiated in existing grass areas, fairways and greens to improve the overall quality of the turf. You will be able to enjoy the course even as you see the careful renovation process up close.

Please note that:
  • Members can reserve tee times 7 days in advance.
  • Non-members can register 3 days in advance.
  • Players should sign-in at the Pro Shop 15 minutes before tee time.

Golf Tip of the Month from the Pro

A great game of golf begins with a great grip. The correct grip will help you make solid contact with the ball each and every time.

There are three different types of grips. Let’s begin with the basic baseball bat grip. Then, we will consider the overlapping grip and the interlocking grip, which I recommend because they will help you work your hands together.

For the baseball bat grip, begin by picking up the club with your left hand, as if in a gentle handshake. Your thumb and forefinger should form a V which points to your right shoulder; you should see at least your first two knuckles. Place your right hand directly below your left hand. Again, your thumb and forefinger should form a V which points to your right shoulder.

For the overlapping grip, overlap your right-hand pinky with your left index and middle finger.

For the interlocking grip, slide your right-hand pinky between your left index finger and left middle finger.

Whatever grip you choose, the correct grip should feel like you are firmly cradling a bird in your hand. You don’t want it to fly away, but you don’t want to squeeze too hard.
